Spiritual Hunger & Thirst

Open Your Mouth

“Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, ‘If any man is thirsty, let him come to me and drink.’”
– John 7:37

To understand spiritual thirst, imagine an individual in the desert. His canteen is empty, his lips are parched, and he is desperate for water. Just as God provided water in the wilderness to quench the physical thirst of His people, Jesus offers living water to quench our spiritual thirst. Psalm 81 says, “Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.” The genius of the Christian life is opening your mouth, your heart, and your life wide – and just drinking that water of the Spirit. Suddenly you will begin not only to live, but to also experience the power of God in every area of your life.

As we approach Good Friday and are reminded of all that Jesus endured for us on the Cross, recall that He experienced excruciating physical thirst in order to provide the Living Water that quenches our spiritual thirst.
