And He said, "Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly positions of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in My name welcomes Me."

A New Chapter

In Ministry & Growth

Second Baptist Church has a rich history of reaching this lost and hurting world with the Good News of Jesus Christ. Every square inch of our church campus, and every event on our church calendar, reflect our ongoing commitment to sharing the gospel in this and future generations. The restructured Williams House, the playground additions and improvements, and the inauguration of a university-model educational program, are the very tools we need to equip us for an exciting new chapter in ministry and growth at the West Campus. As we meet the needs presented below, we are laying the foundation that will enable us to build for tomorrow and continue our commitment to loving kids and their families.

Building for Tomorrow: Second Loves Kids is a two-year campaign to pledge and give $8 million (over and above your annual giving to the church). No project of this scope is possible without the prayerful and sacrificial commitment of individuals and families in our church family.

    Creative Play areas
    for Children

As we build for tomorrow, our primary focus must be on our children. They are the future of our church, and it is our goal — and our responsibility — to provide the best possible ministry for kids and their families. As we upgrade our indoor and outdoor playgrounds, we not only improve the first impressions young families have when they visit the West Campus, but we also demonstrate our commitment to these families and our desire to help them feel at home in our church.
    Outdoor Playground
The existing outdoor playground will be refreshed and improved to provide a reinvented and visually engaging space for children. The playground will offer age-appropriate sections for toddlers, preschoolers, and elementary-age children. The new playground will better meet the needs of children participating in the Mother's Day Out program, women's weekday Bible studies, and community playdates. In the summer, the expanded playground will become a valuable resource for programs such as day camps and Vacation Bible School.
Second City West - Indoor Playground
Second City West will provide a large indoor playground for our Nursery through Preschool children. It will provide digital interaction and soft equipment, as well as different themed play areas. It will quickly become a favorite destination for our church family members and visitor from our Katy community. Second City West will become an important addition in our evangelism to young families. Parents visiting with their children will become familiar with our campus and our church. At the same time, they will have an opportunity to connect with others and develop lifelong friendships while their kids play and have fun.

      Ideal space for
      Fellowship & Community

As many experienced in their own homes, the freeze of 2021 resulted in burst pipes and serious damage to the Williams House, rendering it out of commission for the past year. As part of Building for Tomorrow, this building will be redesigned and reconfigured to provide for the current and future needs of our church family. The Williams House has served the West Campus well since 2003, when Bible Study classes meeting in the Worship Center outgrew that space and needed a new home. The original Williams House (named in honor of Gary Williams, a longtime member of Second and the general contractor for the West Campus construction), addressed that need with four large classrooms and a central gathering space.

When complete, the reimagined Williams House will provide an attractive and functional meeting space for all ages, hosting student events and assemblies, receptions, adult Bible study fellowships, leadership training workshops, and wedding receptions. The large primary room will accommodate seating for more than 500 (or 250 at tables), and a full-service kitchen will provide the facilities needed to host a variety of programs and community events. Technology upgrades will expand the capability of the Williams House to serve groups using the building for worship, fellowship, community events, and educational needs.

        Christian Education
        Pre-K through Grade 12

In 1946, Second Baptist School established a five-day traditional Christian school to provide biblical instruction in an environment where students could grow academically, spiritually, physically and socially. In 2020, in response to implementing Dr. Young's vision to extend Christian education across the Houston area, Second Baptist School expanded its educational offering to include a classical University-Model option. As a continued ministry of Second Baptist Church (SBC), Second Baptist School University-Model (SBSUM) combines the best elements of home education and traditional private Christian education. This unique design of classical Christian education includes on-campus instruction two to three days per week and satellite work on the remaining days.

The many upgrades and changes we will make to both our indoor and outdoor playgrounds and reimagined Williams House with assembly and classroom space will open doors and create opportunities. We are excited to announce the expansion of SBSUM to the SBC West campus in fall 2023. SBSUM is committed to developing a biblical worldview in students across education programs that includes academics, arts, and athletics through a classical Christian pedagogy. The goal is that upon graduation, students will confidently know how to think critically, live biblically and lead courageously to impact the world for Jesus Christ. Faculty and staff are selected for their love for God, their commitment to students, and their focus on our core values of Christ-centered education, the pursuit of academic excellence and devotion to a caring community.
