The School of Performing Arts

The School of Performing Arts at Second Baptist Church offers private and group instruction in instrumental music, musical theatre, and dance, to provide students of all ages a chance to develop the gifts God has given them. The SPA regular season takes place from August-April, with a summer session of focused camps and weekly classes June-July.

SPA is a part of the Woodway Campus Worship Ministry, and all lessons, classes, and summer camps take place on the Woodway Campus.

The School of Performing Arts is open to members and non-members of Second Baptist Church. Regular enrollment periods open in August, November (limited), and April. Enrollment is limited, based on student age or class capacity.

Private Lessons

SPA Private Lessons offer students the chance for weekly one-on-one instruction in the musical instrument of choice, including piano, guitar, voice, and most orchestral instruments. We have a diverse faculty and seek to match students and teachers based on schedule availability and personality. Lessons are 30 minutes one-on-one with the instructor, and are held weekly for 14 weeks per semester. A special 8-week summer session is offered each summer. We suggest private lessons begin for students in kindergarten to 1st grade.

Musical Theatre

SPA Musical Theatre seeks to develop in students the essential skills in musical theatre - acting, Broadway-style singing, and choreography - in the context of musical productions each semester. Classes are offered for students in 2nd-4th grade and 5th-8th grade.

Dance

SPA Dance seeks to foster a love of dance through quality instruction in various types of dance, with special emphasis on classical ballet, jazz, tap, musical theatre, and hip hop, in a positive, Christ-centered environment. Classes begin for dancers age 3.

Summer

The School of Performing Arts offers a shortened summer season of eight weeks, highlighted by summer camps in Musical Theatre, Worship Band, and Dance, as well as weekly private lessons and dance classes.

Musical Theatre Camp offers students the chance to experience a full semester of musical theatre in the course of one week in June. Students entering 2nd-4th grade or 5th-9th grade gather on Monday for a crash course in theatre, learn a show, and present a full, hour-long Broadway-style production on Friday.

Worship Band Camp offers private lesson students entering 5th-12th grades the chance to bring their skills together and learn what it means to worship the Lord through music, as well as lead others in worship, during a week in July. Camp concludes with a worship concert for family and friends. Some experience in your preferred instrument is required for camp.

Dance Camp offers new or returning dancers the chance to experience multiple genres of dance - ballet, lyrical, jazz, musical theatre, and hip hop - during one week of camp in July.
