What is a disciple?
A disciple is a learner, an apprentice who seeks to model his life after a Master Teacher. A disciple of Jesus Christ is a believer who has made a conscious decision to follow Christ (Luke 9:23). He is someone who lives with Jesus so that he may live like Jesus.
Getting started:
You may be wondering, "How do I get to know people and begin to grow in Christ?" Suggested Steps for your discipleship journey in our church:
• Join a Bible Study Class. This is your "neighborhood" in our small town. Our regular Saturday evening or Sunday morning classes should be your first point of contact. Brochures with a full listing of classes are available in the atrium information desk.
• Contact the Director or Discipleship Director of your class to find out what courses or small groups/discipleship groups are starting up or meeting. Then, simply join a group!
Recommended Group Studies:
Essential Christianity- Learn what it means to really know Christ. Discover how to grow spiritually and how to follow Jesus in a world that is anything but devoted to Him. This is a 6-week study; the book includes leaders' notes. Bill Hybels is the author.
The Disciples' Cross - This is Book 1 in the MasterLife series by Avery Willis; a 6-week study which includes Bible study, scripture memory and assignments. Develop a deeper relationship with Christ as you practice the six Biblical disciplines of a disciple.
Disciple's Prayer Life - This 13-week study is designed to help the growing Christian know the Father and walk with Him through prayer. Some key concepts include "Using the Bible in Prayer," "Expressing Gratitude in Prayer" and "Worshiping God in Prayer."
1 & 2 Timothy - This is one of several book studies by John MacArthur. It is a 12-week study on 1 & 2 Timothy. All MacArthur's book studies are recommended.
Having a Real Relationship with God - This is a 6-week study by Kay Arthur. For more Kay Arthur studies visit the Precept Ministries International website.
